Includes Creation and Funding of Community Financial Advocate Role

DALLAS, TX (November 1, 2023) – NDBT (North Dallas Bank & Trust), a leading North Texas community bank established in 1961, has joined nine other Dallas-area banks supporting Watermark CDC (Community Development Corporation) with talent, time, and treasure to help transform the economic welfare of South Dallas. NDBT’s contribution includes the Financial Catalyst initiative, which teaches financial education and empowerment, and partial funding of the newly created Community Financial Advocate role.

The foundation for the new Community Financial Advocate role was developed over the past 21 months, culminating in the hiring of Josue Contreras earlier this quarter. His responsibilities will include providing financial services while advocating on behalf of Watermark CDC and local organizations, working closely with the South Dallas community to address its unique financial needs, and ensuring sustained support.

“This association, with the financial support of the advocate role, is an important part of our commitment to communities of North Texas,” said Lisa Rushing, NDBT’s director of community engagement. “As a community bank, we strive to provide community development and financial inclusion throughout the neighborhoods that make up our diverse population. We look forward to the positive impact this project will have on the residents of South Dallas.”

The shared effort is a significant collaboration with Watermark CDC, extending financial services to the South Dallas area that include banking accounts, mortgage loans, small business loans and commercial loans. In addition, bank colleagues serve in various volunteer opportunities, sponsor events, and teach topical seminars.

“We are grateful to our bank partners for their support of the Community Financial Advocate and our vision to ‘Transform Economic Welfare,’” said Carson Smith, Watermark CDC executive director.
